It’s a New Day

Lamentations 3:22–24

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
   for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
   great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
   therefore I will wait for him.”


There are seasons of life when we feel overwhelmed. It may be because we’re raising young children or growing teenagers. It could be that we’re facing challenging health issues. We might be drained by our job or going through a heartbreaking relational situation. Sometimes it’s due to our own mistakes or even pressure we put on ourselves. Whether it’s small irritants or major life challenges, we’ve all had hard
times… or soon will. It can be difficult to keep right perspective and hold onto positivity
in these seasons.

Do you ever feel like you could use a restart? Have you had months or years of
exhaustion and longed for refreshed hope?

Today’s Bible passage offers grounding when we feel we’re being tossed by storms or stuck in ruts. There have been many times I’ve had to grasp for hope when all around
me seemed to be falling apart, or I’ve waited and waited for answers or change.

Our loving Father extends an invitation to push the restart button every day. We can do
this by remembering how He has carried us in the past and how he promises good for
our future. Every morning, we can take a deep breath and accept His grace once again. IGS-Devo-Week1-Story-5.16 crop
He is our portion – our inheritance. He has shared everything of Himself with us; we
have access to His love, forgiveness, and mercy every single day. That should give us
hope while we wait for tomorrow!

Thought for the day: Remember God’s faithfulness by making a list of what you’re
grateful for, or by singing a worship song to him. He is near when we fix our minds on
him and praise him!

Prayer: Father, thank you for loving me so much that you offer your compassion and
mercy to me every day. Your grace reminds me that you have good plans in store, and
you promise to make all things new! I praise you for being a faithful God who showers
my life with good gifts – even as simple as a fresh start as I watch the sun rise again.
Thank you for your hand on my life. Amen.
