How Thanking God Is Like Eating a Perfect Burrito

BURRITO

Ecclesiastes 12:1-2

1Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.”  2Remember him before the light of the sun, moon, and stars is dim to your old eyes, and rain clouds continually darken your sky.

In our younger years, nearly every experience is a brand new experience. During this time, life is so full of “wow,” that we tend to take it for granted moving from one “wow” experience to another.

Later in life, however, we can find ourselves on the opposite end of the “wow” spectrum. There can be a tendency to take on the “I’ve seen it all” attitude. Nearly nothing impresses us anymore.

In either case, we run the horrifying risk of not fully celebrating the important things in life like… BURRITOS. The marinade on the medium rare carne asada, the rice with the perfect amount of cilantro, and the perfect blend of cheese, guac, salsa, beans, and fajita veggies all wrapped in a tortilla that has been folded into a shape and size that resembles your face.

As you take the first bite into the most amazing burrito you’ve ever tasted, you have an important decision to make: Will you choose to honor the created or the creator? As it turns out, the perfect burrito doesn’t grow on trees. A creator had to imagine, design, assemble, and perfect over time the most amazing burrito you’ve ever tasted. It’s because the burrito was created that we have so much to celebrate!

How often do you find yourself celebrating the created rather than the creator?

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:6).

Whether it’s the perfect burrito, your spouse, your friendships, your possessions, hobbies, or anything else under the sun, remember, each of them were created by God, the master designer who had you in mind when he created them.

Thought for today: Think of three things that you are very thankful for. Take time to reflect on and imagine all of the thought, intention, and design that God must have put into creating each of these three things.

Today’s Prayer: Thank you, God, for creating the world and everything in it. The entire earth sings your praises through all that you have made. Help me to see you everywhere I go and in everything I do. I choose to worship you by recognizing you as the creator of the heavens and the earth. Amen.
